Irma update from Stone Harbor, NJ Saturday 9/9/17…9AM

Behind the title page is the Sanibel house backyard…see San Carlos Bay on the top left side.

Check out this forecast from the Weather Underground.  It’s from Friday night.  You can see the map of Sanibel Island behind it.  We are located on the east end of the island, on the right where you can see the Causeway coming across to the island from the mainland – Fort Myers.  The wind speeds are enormous….it looks worse on Saturday morning.

Remember, on Thursday night we were all playing the violins for those poor souls in Miami, who were in the cross-hairs.  Now it’s Southwest Florida.  See the map below…

This map goes from our Chapel by the Sea at the north end of Captiva Island, down through our home in Sanibel, then across the Causeway and down Route 41 past our pals – Joe and Marilyn Miller – in Bonita Springs, down to our “big city” of Naples.

Here’s a bigger version of the map.  Nancy’s sister, Bonnie and Reid, live just south of Sarasota on the Gulf.  On that St. Pete peninsula we have friends, Sandy & David as well as the Franchinis from Montana, who we will see in Steamboat Springs in 2 weeks. Then, at the bottom, Eileen Shallow is in a high rise on Marco Island.

We have many good friends along these Sanibel/Captiva places – Queenie and Dave along with the Boris family and the Pyles in the heart of Captiva on the water,  the WyBerrys (Blair & Dennis), Nancy Kennedy,  Karen Bell, the Stringers, the Duttons, Neills  from the Sea School, O’Neills right on the Gulf, Schuberts on the golf course, Clarks near the Gulf, the Hansers on the Dunes golf course, Mondellis on two canals, the aforementioned Scotts (Fort Myers and right next door on Lighthouse Way), Kandi Sanger (right on San Carlos Bay, too), the Guelichs (from Junior High School and Fort Myers), Greensteins (she of Cape May County), Millers in Bonita and the Boyd’s in Naples on a canal near the Gulf.  And, So many more…we are all prepared and scared.

Reverend John Cedarleaf, Pastor of the Captiva Chapel by the Sea, is praying for the many new friends he made in his first year (last season; Nov. to April) in Captiva.  And, as each Pastor has a 3-year term, we have prayers flowing from Bruce McLeod and Joyce Kelly, Bob Hansel, Tom Nyman and George Morris, too.

Just heard from friends – the Regans – who have 2 new homes in Boca Raton, on the east coast.  They just returned from Europe to hear this news…they are, thankfully, in DC.

Amy, Nancy and I are headed to a motorcycle race, where Amy’s husband – Michael Brock – is taking photos.  It’s in nearby Millville, NJ.  We will check the Weather Channel every once in a while and keep praying regularly.

  • We can only pray and hope something spares you the worst. You’ve been hit before an it worked out. We never know when something is good or bad. Just have faith. That’s easy to say, but I can tell you first hand, that’s true. You’ll come out on top. You always have! Tante Belle Cose, Dick & Linda >
