Mike Roach takes the wheel with Sky as the navigator…in the rain for what shows on google.maps as a 2.5 hour ride. But, with roundabouts and unexplained turns, we do some “single-track roads” and take about 3.5 hours to our hotel. Not bad…and, I didn’t have to drive…happy birthday to me.
We turned off the N15 above Sligo and south of Donegal when we saw Mullaghmore Castle out by the seaside about a mile out on a point. You can see it on the map above, if you look close. We never reached it, but saw some fabulous cliffs and sea views while we tried to get there.
Then, a stop for an an ice cream and on to the hotel…still raining.
Another tiny road leads to the hotel on Lough Eske.
Rooms are enormous; here’s the living room and the bath…takes 2 photos to see them.
The staff is very ready to please and have arranged for the ladies to have a bouquet in each of their rooms…the big one is in Nancy’s birthday room.
We made plans to walk as soon as the rain stopped…we must be believers in clearing, right?
Tonight is a meal down the street (Clovis Resort on the Lake), but we need a lift, since we are on another single-tracker and we don’t want to be one of those 6-packs walking along the side of the skinny road like targets. No problem for the Harvey’s Point staff. Seamus took us down to the Lough Eske Castle for a fine meal. His boss, Michael, is to be our guide tomorrow to see Donegal town and Slieve League, the 2000 foot high sea cliffs.
And, it’s Nancy’s birthday…big day. See you after that.
Here are some bonus photos from the walks earlier.
