Chautauqua sights and thoughts.

We spend lots of our time wandering here.  Our house is on the north end of a place that’s about 5 miles long; laid out along the lake.  We walk or bike most everywhere.  We do have two cars that haven’t moved in 48 hours.  The environs are architecturally wonderful and horticulturally joyful this time of year.

Gardens and railings are some of our favorites.

There are little surprises hidden around the place, too.

This sculptor is famous here. She has a studio nearby and many installations in the village. This one is about 2 feet tall; some are life size.

Our house is on the north end of the village; near other rentals we have secured during our other visits of the past 7 years.

This is our house at 14 Gebbie Drive. 3BRs/3.5 baths. 15 minute walk to the center of the village and the Ampitheater. Our best rental yet in 6 tries.

We have always flown out from Philadelphia to either Erie (Tom Ridge International Airport) or to Buffalo.  About an hour from either location.  This time we came in through Erie and leaving this Saturday from Buffalo.  Other people drive it…we are not fans of 7 hour car trips.

USAirways has been our constant companion for a decade in Philadelphia. Everything is being changed over to American Airlines. This may be one of our last rides with the old logo. We are fans of USAir and look forward to American as well.

There are signs posted throughout the center of the village with quotes from some of the presenters who have been here.  The list for us includes Elie Wiesel (the Nobel Peace Prize winner), Tom Brokaw and Ken Burns.

Here's our favorite Chautauquan - Ken Burns. He spent an entire week here in 2014.
