We have been hanging out with the twins, Tim & Cindy for the past 5 weeks – growing a vegetable garden, some boating, following their sailing races, a fabulous family Fourth celebration with the full house and catching some great sunsets and one superb full moon rise.
Tomorrow, the 8th of August, we fly to Erie, drive to Jamestown’s Wegman’s to stock up and get to 14 Gebbie Dr. on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution. The Staffords from CO and the WyBerrys from Vermont will join us by day’s end. We are here until the 15th.
The week’s theme (one of the nine weeks of the summer season) is “Redefining Europe”…certainly a topic that has been in the news. And, also timely, since we were the beneficiaries of the lowest dollar to Euro pricing in years just this past May for our Italy trip.
In addition, we have a dinner Sunday night with more Sanibel folks who are here for Week Seven as well. And, Wednesday, we have invited the Scotts – Susan and Craig of Sanibel fame – to dinner…they were the ones who started us on our Chautauqua adventure 7 years ago. Their invitation was one of the strangest and most powerful we have ever experienced. “You come be our guests for a week in our condo…if you like it or not, we will never invite you back to our place. If you like it, we want you to invite other folks and rent a place of your own to make sure that we can perpetuate this place.”
What a wonderful way to share the mystery of Chautauqua. Thank you, Scotts.
We will be back in a couple of days with further reports. You can check the scene at Chautauqua at their site…www.ciweb.org.
