Bongiorno…and some thoughts about “thin places”.

there’s my coffee cup on the table and the rooster is crowing , too. time to awake.

It is so peaceful here in the quiet of the Tuscan countryside.  So, quiet is part of relaxing, while traveling, for sure.

But, yesterday, we experienced another of those places where you feel a spiritual presence around you. Sant’Damiano had that feeling even before we walked into the church and heard six monks’ voices fill the air with a Gregorian chanting.

this church reminded us of the church at Iona Island in Scotland.
There was a closeness to the Creator God. Not everyone feels it and it’s not necessarily that God you know, but the spiritual presence seems real to me.

Walking a labyrinth can create that kind aura, for 3-5 minutes at a time…for some. Heres the one in our back yard in Sanibel.

We draw them in the sand, too.
and, our newest, favorite “thin place”…Chapel by the Sea in Captiva.
If you share this feeling somewhere, please comment and let us know your secret thin place.

this has now become our “planning meeting”. despite the Squire’s yawn, it is an animated discussion. Perhaps, we will stay here and read.

  • Dearest Chip,
Many thanks for sharing today’s wonderful post.
I’m so glad you and Nancy made a labyrinth for us when we needed it most, and gave us one we treasure in our home.
We love you guys and the peaceful way you live your lives.
    Travel safe,
    Cheryl and Marc
