Ooops, I skipped the Battle of Culloden.

We visited the grounds of the Battle of Culloden.  It’s near Inverness.  1746 battle ends the Jacobite Rising…trying to put a Roman Catholic (this time, it was Bonnie Prince Charlie) back on the throne of both Scotland and England.  The English won…and the Scottish don’t seem to be pleased about it, even though they’ve been part of the UK for over 300 years now.Image

Alistair, our guide, is so Scottish, that his rendition of the battle is told from the

point of view of a Highlander/Jacobite.  It is a tragic battle for this group and, for many a year, brings an end to the Highlander way of life.  An interesting wall portrays the 50 English deaths vs. the 1,500 Jacobite deaths with stones, reminding some of the Vietnam Wall.Image
